Meet Our Farmers: Root and Regenerate Urban Farms

Root and Regenerate Urban Farms
Calgary, Alberta

Root and Regenerate Urban Farms (formerly known as Dirtboys) was originally founded by Dennis Scanland: past president of YYC Growers and Distributors, and current operator of SunnyCider.

One of the longest-running urban farms in Calgary, the organization has since been taken over by Michael Gavin. Michael has a background in ecology with a focus on supporting native pollinators, which he brings to his farming practices.

Root and Regenerate practices “no-dig” regenerative farming in Calgary yards to promote soil health and microbial life, transforming sodded grass space (which drains resource is) and turns it into thriving productive vegetable gardens that regenerate soil and ecosystem.

What they grow for us: summer greens, bok choy, hakurei turnips, arugula, kale, beets, more.
