Farmer Fridays: The ‘Off’ Season at Happiness By The Acre

By | March 16, 2018

"When I dream of a farming “off season”, it usually involves sandy beaches. But the reality is a bit different.

For our small @happines_by_the_acre crew (Marcus, Sam & I) it has meant a lot of planning, more planning. And we’re still planning! We have a modest house & workspace being built on our farm, so much of our time this winter has been making decisions about the build.

Our weeks are pretty basic (getting our son to & from school, play dates with friends, time to build LEGO together, swimming/skating lessons, etc). Throw in time researching chicken health & mobile coop designs (we’re welcoming our first flock into the family soon), and picking out kitchen cabinets & bathroom tiles… you get the idea.

I keep a regular blog with a few contributors @bubblegumsassy. Marcus & I also enjoy power-lifting at the local gym. Keeps us fit for the growing season!

We also managed to fit in family challenges, like saying goodbye to Marcus’ mom, my dad having open-heart surgery and waiting patiently to become adoptive parents in a domestic adoption.

A busy “off season” this year, but it will all be worth it!"
